Condolence From: Gary Duneman
Condolence: I was a high school wrestling teammate of Alex's. He was an excellent wrestler (state champ) and had a tremendous sense of humor, along with a continual smile. I still remember when Alex arrived in Cresco from Belarus (?). The year escapes me, maybe 1955. He was a great addition to our school and developed very close friendships. When the team of 1960 was organizing for a reunion at the Wrestling Hall of Fame banquet in 2011 we had a difficult time finding Alex. But we kept looking because we wanted to see him. Finally, we came across his name in a motorcycle club. The president of the club was called to obtain Alex's phone number. Most of his teammates had not seen him since high school. When we first saw him he had that same smile, surrounded by a few wrinkles. Alex was a person very hard to forget, and he wasn't. My thoughts go out to his family, and I am sure I can speak on behalf of all his teammates. We are glad we could share some time with Alex in 2011 to remember our achievements on the mat, but more importantly to remember Alex and his contributions in talent and personality.
