Obituary

Obituary for Barbara Anne Kinney (Kokesh)

Barbara Anne Kokesh Kinney of Maple Grove, Minnesota passed away Sunday, June 30th at the J. A. Wedum Hospice Facility in Brooklyn Park. She was in the presence of her loving family. Barb was diagnosed with a brain tumor on May 10th. Facing her foe with grace, courage and dignity, she had surgery to remove the tumor but it quickly grew back. The family wishes to thank the entire Neurology and Oncology team at North Memorial Hospital and the team at J.A. Wedum. They gave Barb the best of care and the kindest of bedside manner. Barb was born on December 14, 1939 in Minneapolis. She was the daughter of Edward Louis Kokesh and Gladys Veronica Kokesh, who both preceded her in death. She attended Hopkins High School and graduated from the College of St. Teresa in Winona, Minnesota. Barb was a teacher in the Robbinsdale School District and a homemaker. Barb had a great love of travel and was able to visit numerous other countries. She loved her church, the arts, and a good Manhattan cocktail. Barb is survived by her daughter Mary Beth Tillman, her husband Erik and daughter Vivian, son Peter (Chip) and his wife Shelly and their son Edward and daughter Sarah, her children’s father Peter Kinney, Sr., brother Thomas Kokesh and his children John, Katy, Craig and Amy and their families, as well as numerous friends that Barb treasured and have been so good to her. Funeral services will be held at ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER (7180 Hemlock Lane N. Maple Grove 55369) on Thursday, July 11th at 11am with visitation one hour prior. If desired, friends may make memorial donations to Second Harvest Heartland.

Mary Pat Blake

Mary Beth, Chip, and families,
I've just learned of Barb's passing, and my heart goes out to all of you. She is a beautiful, intelligent, classy, and fun-loving lady who gave me so many opportunities to grow up through my babysitting experiences with you. I soaked up her wisdom in our conversations. I've looked up to her for decades. She will be missed. Much love to you.

I was saddened to learn of Barb's death. She was a great neighbor...even though I did not see her in recent years, I often thought about her and you. Take care.
