Obituary for Bonita Kay Balabon (Olson)

Balabon, Bonita Kay age 73 of Maple Grove, Minnesota, passed away on February 17, 2020.

Preceded in death by husband, Gene; parents, Parnell and Doris Olson; brother, Peter Olson.

Survived by son, Mark Balabon; daughter, Brenda (Jeff) Servais; grandchildren, Drew and Lucas; sister, Lynneia Wojtysiak; brother, Michael (Debra) Olson; other relatives and friends.

Bonnie grew up in Brooklyn Center where she met some of the most important people in her life, who are still her friends today. She met Gene, the love of her life, in high school when one of her friends convinced her to go on a blind date. And that was it. They spent the next 42 years of their lives together providing a constant example to those around them of what unconditional love looks like.

Bonnie loved to travel when she had the chance and her best memories came from a trip that she and Gene took to Spain in 2001 to visit her sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Walt. She and Gene had the time of their lives on that trip and she was still telling stories about it even up to her passing.

The most important thing in Bonnie’s life was always family. She was an amazing mother to Mark and Brenda through the years; always there, no matter what. In her later years her greatest joy was becoming a Nana, and nothing made her happier than spending time with her grandsons, Drew and Lucas. They were the light of her life and the joy in her every day.

On February 17th, Bonnie was reunited with Gene once again, just in time to dance with him again on their 53rd wedding anniversary. She was a wonderful woman, a lifelong friend, a devoted mother, and an incredibly loved Nana. She is forever in our hearts and will be dearly missed.

Celebration of Life 3 PM Saturday, February 22, 2020 at KOZLAK-RADULOVICH MAPLE GROVE CHAPEL (13745 Reimer Drive) with visitation one hour prior.
