Obituary for Bonita Bernadine Tingley (Haider)
Bonita B. Haider Tingley, 59, passed away early on the morning of Sunday June 23, 2019. She died suddenly but peacefully from an intractable kidney infection which spread rapidly through her body.
Bonita's early life was punctuated by joy and hardship. Born December 10, 1959 in Minneapolis MN, she lost her father, Rudy Haider, at age 8. Later, at age 17, Bonita suffered from bone cancer and lost her right arm. Despite such enormous challenges, she graduated from Edison High School (1977), married, started a family, and had two sons, Eric and Cory.
Intelligent, compassionate, and hard-working, Bonita enjoyed a long and successful career in the federal government.
She spent most of her career at the Fish & Wildlife Service which provided her the opportunity to move to Charles Town WV in 1993 as a founding member of the National Conservation Training Center. She retired as the Chief of Human Resources Officer at the Federal Communications Commission in 2013.
While living in WV, Bonita met and married G. Roger Tingley on August 2, 2004. During their happy and loving marriage, their bond deepened through shared interests including antiques, art, real estate, food, family, and a seemingly non-stop schedule of traveling.
Above all, Bonita was an inspiration to everyone she knew. She had such incredible strength and compassion. She touched the lives of everyone she encountered: friends, family, and co-workers.
She is survived by her husband, G. Roger Tingley; her mother, Helen Haider; her sons, Eric (Lizmery) Schires, Cory (Dana) Schires, and Gary (Amanda) Tingley; her three daughters Michelle (Jeff) Balon, Jan (Michael) Ellsworth, and Laurie (Nick) Tingley; her two sisters, Marlene (Gary) Knight and Linda Chapple; her brother, Jim Haider; her twenty-four nieces and nephews; and her eight grandchildren, Kieran, Naomi, Blake, Wyatt, Mikayla, Allie, Ellie, and Gracie.
She is preceded in death by her father, Rudy Haider and her first husband Steven J. Schires.
Mass of Christian Burial at CHURCH OF THE HOLY CROSS (1621 University Ave NE,) Wednesday, July 3 at 11 AM with visitation starting at 9:30 AM.
