Richard, Bruce A. Age 91 of Roseville, MN passed away peacefully on April 11, 2021 surrounded by family. Preceded in death by loving wife of 56 years Joan, parents Albert and Violet Richard and siblings Ronald (Mary Ann) Richard and Annette French. Bruce graduated from Edison High School in NE Minneapolis in 1947 and went on to attend the University of Minnesota before being federalized to serve in the Minnesota Army National Guard from May, 1948 to May, 1952. In 1951 he came home on leave to marry Joan and they returned to Alabama to continue his service. Upon discharge he went back to the University of Minnesota to complete his degree in Electrical Engineering and graduated in 1954. He later received a BS degree in Economics in 1963 through the University of Minnesota Business School.
He worked for NSP for 32 years in various positions in Minnesota and North Dakota before retiring in 1986 as President and COO. He was active in other business investment ventures throughout his retirement.
Bruce was very involved in a number of charitable and community organizations throughout his life including the Indianhead Council of the BSA, Courage Center, St. Paul's Benedictine Monastery as well as the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology and the Carlson School of Management. He received an Outstanding Achievement Award from the University of Minnesota in 2009. He enjoyed traveling with Joan as well as other friends and family and was an avid sports fan.
His greatest joy was his family. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Bruce is survived by children, Therese Richard (Ken Thomas), Suzanne (Richard) Opitz, and Thomas (Mary) Richard; grandchildren, Julie Crisman (Stephan Klein), Danielle (Jason) Klinghagen, Anthony (Heather) Crisman, Jacqueline Richard, Richard (Anna) Opitz and Joanna (Jordan) Stang; great-grandchildren, Sierra, Ivy, Henry, Vivienne, Charlie, Avery, Eli, Regan and Owen and sister, Elaine (Michael) Brinda.
