Obituary for Charles A. Swanson "Chuck"

Charles A. Swanson (93), “Chuck”, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10.

Born on July 24, 1926, he is preceded in death by infant daughter Susan Mary and wife Mary Jarzyna Swanson. Survived by son, John C. Swanson (Elaine), daughter, Teresa M. Goettsch (Dennis), daughter, Kathleen S. Elorriaga, (Scott Meester). Grandchildren, Annie and Kelly Swanson, Ali and Paulina Elorriaga, Daniel Goettsch, Lauren Goettsch Walters and Mariel Goettsch. Retired from a career in Labor Relations with time spent as a Union Business Agent, Director of the Minnesota Bureau of Mediation Services (BMS), Chief Labor Negotiator for the State of Minnesota, and management consultant with the firm Goldberg, Swanson, Paulson. Chuck was a lifelong resident of the northeast Minneapolis area, graduating from De La Salle high school, where he starred in football and baseball. Chuck graduated early from De La Salle to enlist in the United States Navy near the end of World War 2, where he served for 2 years. After returning from the service, his working career began at the Grain Belt Brewery where he was employed for 25 years until 1972, with the last 7 years as an Associate Brewmaster and Director of Labor Relations. Chuck leaves behind an abundance of friends made throughout his life, many of whom helped him in his last years on a daily basis as his dementia progressed. Chuck maintained his quick wit and sense of humor to the end. Chuck lead an interesting life full of many interesting experiences but in the end he would always remind you that “I am just a kid from northeast who was very lucky……really, basically”.

A private service will be held next week. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date and will likely be held at one his favorite places …… Elsie’s.
