Obituary for Edith Sarich (Engle)

Our sweet Edie passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s August 16, 2021 at the age of 96. She was born to John and Augusta Engle 5-5-1925, in Eau Claire, WI, middle child between two brothers. A few years after moving to Mpls., while working at NSP, she met Harry. They wed 5-15-1954 and recently celebrated their 67th anniversary in their home purchased in 1956. Edie worked various part-time jobs, but her favorite was Fine Jewelry at Dayton’s downtown Mpls., taking the bus and coming home with buys “too good to pass up.” Their marriage was filled with entertaining, travel (Europe, Mexico, Harry’s Navy reunions, Alaska & Caribbean cruises), 32 years of cabin life on Pipe Lake, WI and 28 years wintering in Arizona. Edie enjoyed being a homemaker. Canning pickles, tomatoes, peaches and pears filled her summers. She was a member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral and active in Perohi group and Mothers’ Club. She will be missed by her many friends in her beloved church community. Her true love was her family: caring for Harry; talking with Judy numerous times daily about nothing; and especially loving up her grandchildren, from keeping track of every diaper change-shopping together for new school, Christmas, or Pascha outfits-touring Dayton’s 8th floor and watching the Holly Dazzle Parade-annual shopping trips to Toys-R-Us to pick out birthday gifts-to just listening and asking about their adult lives. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John and Dick. Survived by her loving husband, Harry; daughter, Judy (Mark); grandchildren, Lucas (Sarah), Allyson (Karl), Emily; grand dog, Bella; goddaughter, Brenda; sisters-in-law, Ellen, MaryAnn and Ginny; nieces and nephews. Her thoughtfulness lasted until the very end, asking us with a wink if we wanted a drink, the night before her fall. Memory Eternal sweet Baba, you are so loved and will forever be in in our hearts. Visitation 5 – 7 PM Friday at ST. MARY’S ORTHODOX CATHEDRAL (1701 5th St. NE Mpls., MN) with Parastas (Vigil Prayers) at 7 PM. Funeral Service 10:00 AM Saturday AT THE CATHEDRAL. Interment St. Mary’s Orthodox Cemetery.
