Obituary for Elsie Joyce Stenberg (Mihalik)

Elsie Joyce (Mihalik) Stenberg

of St. Anthony Village, Minnesota. Elsie, endearingly referred to as "The Queen" has ended her "reign" after 95 amazing years! She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, godmother, aunt, friend and neighbor. Elsie blessed us all with some of that great Nordeast Minneapolis moxie which came with a grin and a twinkle in her eye. She loved a good bakery, and a perfect Manhattan (even though she drank scotch and water… but didn’t really like the taste!)
She frequently enjoyed the benefits of retail therapy and relished shopping for an incredible bargain (especially the Dayton’s warehouse sales!) Elsie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and making their favorite foods, watching her great grandchildren play, sitting outside with neighbors, going out for lunch and gabbing with girlfriends, pinching perohi, rolling holubki and serving samovar tea at St Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral, and she ALWAYS wanted to see her family! Her most preached advice to her daughters, “Put on a little lipstick!”

Elsie passed away peacefully after suffering from Lewy Body Dementia. She was preceded in death by loving husband Robert Stenberg; parents Peter and Anastasia (Kotik) Mihalik; brothers Joseph Mihalik Sr., Frank Mihalik and sister-in-law Jackie Mihalik (Frank); dear beloved friends of the family Janet, Antoinette and Lilah Mangen.

Survived by children, Todd (Sherri) Stenberg, Stacy Stenberg (John Fangman), Chris (Bernie) Gulachek and Linda (Troy) Paulson; grandchildren, Michael (Autumn Wheelock) Svobodny, Matthew Stenberg (Jessica Lau), Zachary Stenberg, Alex (Rachel) Gulachek, Nicholas Gulachek, Macy Paulson and Felicity Paulson; great-grandchildren, Ellie Svobodny, Cora Svobodny, Luca Svobodny and Anastasia Gulachek; many nieces and nephews and special caregivers Mardaline Vaye, Amelia Wleh, Massa Scott, Greg Holewa and Health Partners Hospice Team.
