Obituary for Linda Anne Gallick (Vogt)

LINDA ANNE GALLICK
March 27, 1943 – March 26, 2023

Linda was a caring, supportive and loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend.

Born in March, 1943 in Lincoln Nebraska, the oldest of three children, she moved with her family to Minnesota early in life living in North Oaks and graduating from Mounds View high school. She earned her bachelor’s degree as a medical technologist from the University of Minnesota in 1965 and met her best friend (and roommate) Wendy in college and they have been best friends ever since. She worked as a medical technologist after graduation at North Memorial hospital.

She was introduced to her future husband on a blind date in 1964, while he was home on leave from the army, and they married in 1969. Their daughter was born in 1970, their first son was born in 1973, and the second in 1977. They lived in Golden Valley and Stillwater for over 30 years as a family. She became a homemaker after her first child, until later in life, when she returned to school and worked as a nurse administrator at St. John’s hospital until she retired.

Linda was shy and unassuming, and cared deeply about her family who benefitted from the love she showed. She was firm, kind and loved to joke around. She was remarkably independent and stubborn, always speaking her mind. She had an infectious laugh and a great sense of humor. If she was laughing, you couldn’t help but laugh along with her.

She loved nature and the outdoors; being outside brought her incredible joy. She loved to go hiking, cross-country skiing, biking and camping, and there were many family trips to the mountains and other family activities that were had over the years. She also loved animals, especially her kitties. She always kept a cat or two at home, and they brought her great happiness throughout her life. She loved to knit, making Christmas stockings, scarves and blankets for family members and friends.

She and her best friend Wendy would go on trips to the North and South shores of Lake Superior and other excursions around the Midwest, enjoying retirement together. They enjoyed each other’s company for over 60 years, both living and raising their families in Stillwater.

She sadly began developing memory loss in her late 60s, ultimately leading to a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. This disease took away the spirit she once had.

While she lived in assisted living and memory care, she made friends, and enjoyed always enjoyed a cup of coffee. She was given an animatronic cat by the staff after she expressed how much she missed her kitty Sam. Several of the staff commented that she was their favorite resident. In the last few months, she especially enjoyed gazing out her window at the birds, turkeys and deer that would pass by.

Survived by husband Joseph Gallick of 40 years, brother Keith Vogt, sister Kathy Thaemert, children, Meredith Weir (Fergus), Matthew Gallick (Lisa), Peter Gallick (Amy) and grandchildren Vivienne Gallick, Lilian Gallick and Miriam Gallick. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
