Obituary for Mykhailo Yosyfovych Sheremeta

On the verge of the Feast of Saint Michael (in Ukraine), our dear dad and grandpa Mykhailo passed peacefully from this life into the arms of Jesus and Mary. We are so blessed and grateful to God for giving us a chance to be with him the past few years. We will cherish those memories forever.
Mykhailo was born in the post-war Ukraine in 1948, in Tovste, a small village in Husiatyn region in Ukraine. He grew up with little, taught himself music, loved life, and learned to gracefully tackle any roadblocks on his journey. He served in the Army in Czechia, was an aspiring photographer, and tried himself as a film operator. His love for learning led him to become a university professor and he taught Finance at the local University in Ternopil for over 30 years. Full of energy and optimism, he was admired and respected in our extended family and in the community.
His life was colorful, fast-paced and multidimensional. In his mind, he was ready to run till the last days, only to realize his body wouldn’t listen. A selfless man with a big heart, he always put others first; he was a true role model of a great husband, a phenomenal father and a glue that kept our whole family together. Please join our family in prayer, as we celebrate the life of our dear father and grandfather, Mykhailo Sheremeta.
Mykhailo is survived by his wife of 48 years, Anna, children Maria (Taras) Rafa and Yosyf (Tanya) Sheremeta, and seven cherished grandchildren—Ivan (Ivasyk), Anna (Hanusia), Solomia and Ivanka, Matviy, Marko i Daryna; sister Anna (Yevhen) Pereshluha, nephew Yuriy, five Godchildren and extended family and friends. He will be remembered and honored for his unending love for his family - as the anchor that united and supported everyone he touched, his love for Ukraine and his love for God.
Visitation at Kozlak-Radulovich Chapel (1918 University Ave. NE) Friday, November 26, 2021 from 4-8 PM with Vigil Prayers (Panachyda) at 6 PM followed by family remarks. Panachyda & family remarks will be live streamed at the link below. Requiem Divine Liturgy at St. Constantine Ukrainian Catholic Church (515 University Ave. NE) Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 10 AM with visitation half hour prior. Interment St Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Lunch will be served after the burial ceremony (about 1:15pm) at St. Constantine's School (adjacent to the church in Northeast).
Глибока біль і невимовна втрата огорнули нашу родини. 20 листопада, на порозі дня Собору Архистратига Михаїла, відійшов у вічність наш батько Михайло Шеремета. Батько дуже любив це Свято. В нашій родині, Михайла було одним з найбільших свят. Якщо Різдво і Великдень ми святкували в колі блищої родини, то на Михайла з’їжджалися всі - близькі i далекі родичі, і сусіди, і друзі.

Батько був душею і серцем всієї нашої родини - костяк до якого ліпилися, і на якому трималися всі. Батько умів вислухати, порадити, а часто і вирішити будь-яку проблему. Його впевненість і розсудливий підхід додавали сили іншим - його поважали, до нього прислухались.
До останніх днів він цікавився нашими справами, рвався допомогти, а потім ловив себе на думці, що фізично не може. Ще за тиждень до смерті хотів квасити капусту і просив мене купити бджоли, щоб він ще встиг навчити дітей бджолярству.
Батько був справжнім господарем. Він вмів зробити все - збудувати хату своїми руками, поремонтувати машину, навчити нас жити і привити нам любов до Бога. Сім’я і родина для нього були всім його життям. Він не рвався до титулів і визнання, але був справжнім ідеалом батька та ідеалом люблячого чоловіка.
Просимо всіх помолитись за його душу. Панахида відбудеться в Kozlak-Radulovich Chapel (1918 University Ave. NE) в п’ятницю, 26 листопада, 2021 о 18:00 за місцевим часом (8 годин різниці з Києвом), прощання з 5 до 8 вечора. Панахида транслюватиметься по посиланню внизу. Похоронна Служба в церкві Святого Константина (515 University Ave. NE) в суботу, 27 листопада о 10:00. Поховання на цвинтарі Святої Марії в МІннеаполісі о 12:15. Родина щиро запрошує всіх на обід після похорону (приблизно в 13:15) в школі при церкві Святого Константина (суміжний будинок з церквою). Замість квітів, похоронні пожертви просимо скласти на церкву Різдва Богородиці в м. Тернопіль.
