Obituary for Norman John Jaschen

Age 81 of Monticello passed away on October 10, 2019. He was born January 27, 1938 in Waverly, Iowa to Gustav & Anetta Jaschen.

Norman is survived by his loving wife, Shirley (57 years); children, Michelle (Peter) Gueldner, Cynthia (Ray) Crestik, Sara (Ryan) Wendt & Jeremy Jaschen; grandchildren, Crista Gueldner, Alyssa (Scott) Braaten, Brianna (David) Vouk, Derek (Angie) Gueldner, Tanisha Crestik, Tarek Crestik, Tieryn Crestik, Samuel Wendt, Elizabeth Wendt, Lydia Wendt & Rachel Wendt; great-grandchildren, Rogne Braaten, Harrison Gueldner, Letty Watson & Dominick Lawrence; brother, Verner (Carol) Jaschen; other relatives & friends.

Norman devoted most of his life to the ministry of Lutheran Bible Translators in literacy work among the Kisi people of Liberia, West Africa. Norman was an avid runner and participated in many marathons around the world. He greatly enjoyed traveling. His retirement years were spent with wife Shirley in South Dakota and Arizona. By those who knew him well he is remembered fondly for his patience, kindness and endearing smile... and his huge appetite! His children have been blessed by the commitment he made to their mother, but also the legacy he leaves of being a faithful steward for the Lord in the work he committed himself to in Africa. Their lives are all the richer for the example of faithfulness he leaves behind. Dearly loved, greatly missed!
