Love Lives On

Richard "Dick" John Carlson
May 28th, 1947 - May 19th, 2020

Dick was a profoundly kind, loving, forgiving, encouraging, humble, brave and gentle man, and the utter beauty of these qualities made those around him absorb them and take them on as their own.

To his loving and adoring wife of 25 years, Cynthia Eckberg, he was her guide, refuge, protector, hero and warrior; and she was his "Sweetheart". They complimented each other. Dick's daughter Kim (husband Willie Jessup), grandchildren Samantha, Zach, Ricky, brother Curt (wife Debbie), sister Koreen (husband Jim Guider), brothers-in-law, Duane Ness, Douglas Eckberg (Amy Lawrence), Nathan Eckberg; relatives, neighbors, friends and colleagues can say with certainty that they never had an encounter where he didn't offer a kind word, a compliment or words of encouragement. His loving and gentle example is the foundation of how we should conduct our lives and guide us in how we treat others.

Dick attended Harding High School and the University of Minnesota. Pursuing a career in finance he cheerfully and unselfishly shared his expertise and experience with colleagues and clients and treated everyone with unfailing courtesy.

Those of us who knew Dick have no problem imagining his paradise. A golf course with no traps or hazards beside a shimmering lake with rolling hillsides. Along the hillside his parents Margaret and Lawrence, brothers Tom, Jim, Mark, and David, sister-in-law Kathleen, mother-in-law Peggy and two companions Buster and Buddy will walk with him and then rest in the shade of a tree.

It is this wonderful legacy of this extraordinary and beautiful man, which will always live on and guide us in our own spirits.
