Obituary for Timothy Martin Clemens

On August 28th, 2020, Timothy (Tim) Clemens passed away peacefully in his sleep, at his favorite place, his home near the shores of Lake Minnetonka.

Born on June 26, 1975 in Edina, MN, Tim was a plump, red-haired kid who lit up every room with laughter, mischief and charisma. These attributes remained throughout his life and were core to his shortfalls and successes. The middle child of five (which he never let us forget), his endless smile and personality were a constant source of joy in our family.

Tim graduated from Orono High School and spent his career in hospitality before landing his favorite job as the vice president of marketing for the re:member Group, a loyalty marketing company where he spent ten years. While at re:member, Tim traveled the country working with clients and presenting at conferences and tradeshows. Those, he would say, were the best years of his life – he was in his element.

Throughout his adult life, Tim wrestled with addiction but rose above it several times. He had the unique ability to persevere and rebuild, no doubt a result of his stubbornness and charm. Tim was bright and persuasive, and never turned down a debate or an opportunity to shine in front of an audience. No party or gathering with friends was free from an exhaustive pontification from Tim, usually followed by riffing and further debate. He welcomed all of it because he adored them (and they him).

Tim is preceded in death by our beloved mother, Sandie, and many grandparents, aunts and uncles. He is survived by his devoted father and stepmother, Tom Sr. and Jan; brother Tom Jr. (Kelly Krebs); sisters Teresa Schlegel (Joe), Tracy Mindiola (John), and Kristine Clemens; nephews Jacob Schlegel (Carly), Tyler Schlegel (Rachel Hogan), Christian Mindiola; nieces Kaylah Fryklund (Pat) and Julianna Mindiola; great-niece Reagan Schlegel; aunts and uncles Bonnie and Paul Clark, Alyce Lee, LuRetta Haire, Mike and Mary Lou Campion; many first, second and third cousins. Tim is also survived by countless friends and colleagues; his former wife and friend, Sophie, and her children, Ava and Joshua.

A private service will be held at Colonial Church, 6200 Colonial Way, Edina, MN 55436 on Saturday, September 5th at 11:00am. Due to COVID regulations, space is limited to 50 attendees. Family (and friends close to Tim) should RSVP at tom@tomclemens.com or call 612-247-0972. Masks will be mandatory. The service will be preceded by an interment at 9am, Lakewood Cemetery, 3600 Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55408. (Tim will be buried next to his mother.) A less socially distant, more inclusive celebration of life will take place next summer.

A memorial scholarship has been established in Tim’s name to assist families with funding for summer camp. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Colonial Church, c/o Tim Clemens Scholarship Fund, 6200 Colonial Way, Edina, MN 55436.
