The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Gary Tollas can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Shirley & Jess Shively

To the Family of Gary & Alvina Tollas, We will miss Gary just as we did Alvina previously. The year was 1999, the place the Gulfstream Condominiums on North Padre Island at Corpus Christi, TX. It was our 1st year as Winter Texans for the period from early January to mid-March when we met this delightful couple from Minnesota, Gary and Alvina Tollas. We became fast friends along with Bill and Shirley Matthew from Missouri, Chuuck and Doris True from Nebraska and we, the Shivelys, from Indiana. Each January until 2007 we met to renew that friendship and until health issues led us to meet that last time. However, those 9 years were wonderful filled with great times eating at the Big Fisherman, playing many games of Alleys, Euchre, Farkle, Joker, Chicken Foot and Mexican Train. There were the golf outings for the guys with probably Gary's best shot known as the "Foot Wedge" and his uncanny mathematical skills! There were the Saturday morning re-cycling runs into town and the stop on the return at Krispy Kreme for donuts fresh out of the hot grease! For better part of valor, we always brought donuts for our beloved "spice" as well! Then om Sunday evenings we made another run to the Coldstone Creamery for ice cream. I once tried to bribe the server to flip the ice cream down onto Gary's head as he was throwing it into the air! However, he declined but it would have been and interesting thing to see! In March of 2007, we all bid each other goodbye not knowing that it would be the final time that we would all be together. But for health reasons that was the final "round=up". After your Mother passed, Gary and I would have frequent phone conversations. I knew that he was having health issues following our last conver-sation several months ago, but I did not realize the full extent. Now as we look up into the Heavens at night, we can see three brightly shining stars which are your Dad and Mom and one for the other departed member of our group, Doris True. God Bless you and your families. Jess Shvely
