Obituary for Gregory Joseph Kapsner

Gregory Joseph Kapsner
Born: March 19, 1959
Little Falls, MN
Passed Away: June 6, 2018
Brooklyn Park, MN
Age 59

Greg, the baby of nine, grew up in the small German-Catholic community of Lastrup, MN. His love of baseball began as a young boy trying to keep up with his brothers, and continued as he played into his 20's for the Lastrup Lakers.

Greg graduated from Pierz Healy High School in 1977, playing football (blame the knee that never got replaced on a football injury), basketball, and baseball, as well as serving as class president. Greg attended St. Cloud State University, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in 1981. He was a member and president of the Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity. Fortunately, Greg didn't quite graduate in four years. He and Sue met her first night at SCSU in the fall of 1981. The rest, as they say, "is history!" Greg was a proud, longtime employee of General Mills. He valued the relationships built since employment in 1981.

Greg's great loves were for his wife, Sue, and their three children, Meg, Ben, and Kate. They were truly his greatest joy. Greg enjoyed all sports, but his favorite was watching or helping his kids play. He enjoyed playing and coaching softball, woodworking, or tinkering in his workshop. He could fix or build anything.

Greg enjoyed family vacations, get-aways with Sue, and mission trips to Jamaica. He valued times with friends. Greg was known for his intellect, sense of humor, love for Snickers and Twizzlers, eating dessert first, his playfulness, his gratitude, his genuine interest in others and his willingness to always lend a hand. We'll never see a hammock without remembering Greg.

Greg was deeply and widely loved, and returned that love abundantly. He faced his illness with remarkable grace and endurance, caring for Sue and their kids with loving and selfless action to the very end of his life.

Our dearly loved Greg passed away peacefully on June 6, 2018 after a courageous battle with glioblastoma; diagnosed March 30, 2018. Preceded in death by parents, Al and Gertie, and infant sisters, Beatrice, Maureen and Mary. Greg is loved and will be deeply missed by survivors, Sue, his wife of 31 years; daughters, Meg and Kate; son, Ben (Casey); siblings, Brother Rolland, Jerry (Marilyn), Dan (Pat), Maury (Linda), Gene (Joan), Warren (Joyce), Lucy (Dave) and John (Donna); nieces and nephews, Kevin, Todd, Wanda, Brad & Gregg; Mary, Mark & Amy; John & Peter; Bob, Don, Ann & Deb; Phil, Andy & Nathan; Paul & Ryan; parents-in-law, Jerry and Nancy Heruth; brothers-in-law, Tom (Allie) and Doug (Kristi); nieces and nephews: Ashley & Lexi and Joe & Jack; also many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
