Obituary

Richard “Dick” Wisti, otherwise known as “The Great Wisto” died at age 85.

Preceded in death by his wife, Arvilla and his step-daughter, Kathy. Survived by daughter, Kristen; step-sons, Jack, Charley (Jackie) and Rob; grandchildren, Jordon, Kaylene, Sean, Jamie, Ariel, Kristen, Cayman, Sharissa, Chad, Logan, Colby, Tylor, Corinne, Colin, Matthew, and Merrinn; and great-grandchildren.

Dick was active in the Wayzata and Shorewood Yacht Club, East Minneapolis Exchange Club, and was a Shriner (Zurah Temple). Throughout his sailing, Dick received a nomination into the MORC International Hall of Fame.

Dick’s affiliation with MORC racing started in 1973 and his passion and dedication to the sport made a significant impact in racing on Lake Minnetonka. Dick was very proud of the achievements of his crew in winning the 1977 MORC International Championship plus many other regional and local championships. Dick was a mentor and coach to many at the Wayzata Yacht Club, some would call him a legend. He was a highly competitive and successful sailboat racer and at the same time was the source of fun and laughter for everyone, which deeply endeared him to all who had the pleasure to sail with him.

He was not just a devoted and loving husband to Arvilla, he was an amazing father and grandfather. He lived a beautiful and highly successful life. Everyone knew his name and the room lit up upon his arrival – “Hey WISTO!”. Known for his infectious laugh, outrageous sense of humor, and big heart we are blessed that his spirit lives within us all.
