Obituary for Stephen Richard French

FRENCH
Stephen R., age 68, of Northeast Minneapolis passed away suddenly on December 3, 2015. Stephen was born in Detroit, Michigan, on June 28, 1947, and later moved with his family to Concord, MA, where he attended high school, working at the town library and playing saxophone in the marching band. He served honorably in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and upon discharge moved to New York City, where he resumed his college education. He received his BS from City College of New York and his MS from the University of Minnesota. Stephen was an avid reader and a jazz aficionado; he loved visiting New Orleans. He also looked forward to the annual French Family trip to Cape Cod when he got to reconnect with extended family and where he was known affectionately as "Uncle Buck". For the past 17 years, Stephen worked for US Bank in Minneapolis as a systems analyst, and had recently retired. He is survived by his wife Ginny Sutton whom he married on September 10, 1989, mother Phyllis French, sister Susan (Dan) Oldfield, brothers David (Chitra), Paul and Charles (Aimee) French and 14 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Robert French. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 12, 3 p.m. at KOZLAK-RADULOVICH CHAPEL (1918 University Ave. NE) with visitation from 1-3 p.m. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of NE Library (2200 Central Ave NE, Mpls., MN 55418) or Twin Cities Jazz Society (P.O. Box 4487 St. Paul, MN 55104)
