Jeff was my best friend. We met at a math competition in 6th grade and remained close friends throughout high-school. We we're unlikely friends because we attended different schools. Jeff was from the south side of town, and I was from the north side. We grew up together in an era where we had complete freedom to ride our bikes all over town and eventually upgraded to four wheels. Jeff worked hard and saved enough to buy his dream car, a Chevy Z24. We enjoyed collecting baseball cards, playing ping-pong, and playing home run derby. Jeff was always a better athlete than me. He wore a California Angels fitted hat whenever he could. His favorite baseball player was Wally Joyner (I still don't now why). It's impossible to count all the time that we spent together. This news really took me by surprise. He was only 38 and I hand't heard about his battle with cancer. I'm sorry that we lost touch over the years because Jeff was the best friend a guy could have. May his memory be a blessing for his wife, his sister Jen, and to all the lives he touched.
