Age 88. Bob passed away on September 11, 2020. He was born and raised in Northeast Minneapolis. After graduating from Edison High School, he served three years in the United States Coast Guard. Bob graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in art education. He had exceptional art talent. Bob had a 32-year career in public service. He was brave, and he encouraged us to take the bull by the horns and to never give up. That is how he lived his life. Bob enjoyed sports, both watching and playing. He was an avid golfer and braved the cold weather Vikings games at the old Met Stadium. From his mother, he developed an interest in politics. A favorite hobby of his was feeding the birds. Bob was a force and made his presence known wherever he was. His absence will be felt by those who knew him.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Joan, parents Michael and Julia, and brother Michael. Bob is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Michael Rowlee, daughter and son-in-law Joni and Andrew Hinton, and cousins and other relatives.

I was saddened to learn of Mr. Vanusek's death. He was a nice guy and I remember his wife well too. My heart goes out to Julie and Joni at the loss of their father.

My most fond memory was once, while home from the seminary, my brother and I were eating at a local pizza spot. Mr. Vanusak was there and had the waitress bring us a pizza, claiming that it was burnt and they couldn't send it out on delivery. The pizza wasn't burned at all, and when I looked over at Mr. Vanusek, he winked - letting me know it was from him.

I will be keeping Robert in my prayers. May the Kingdom of Heaven be his! May his Memory be Eternal!

Dearest Julie, Joni and loved ones. I was reading Bob's obit and so many memories flooded back to me. I was a young teenager when your parents lived on 36-1/2 avenue in Columbia Heights. Because of a very welcoming household to me, I was there a lot. Got on my bike and rode down to the house where I spent many happy hours with your mom and dad and then you two as well. I felt that your home was my home. Both he and your mom were very kind to me. Thank you for sharing them. Cousin Dianne.
